The Crew is an offshoot of original hand dance groups at Caton Castle, TV Hand Dance (1997) & 5 Star Hand Dance (1998). Our main purpose is to have fun while keeping the art form of hand dancing alive. We do this by having an old school dance party every 3rd Friday of the month. For those who cannot hand dance, we line dance, free style, cha cha, and you can do any style of dancing you want to, as long as you have a good time. We offer a low cost for admission which includes: food while it last, plus a chance to win a door prize. The Crew caters to a 50 and over clientele, who dance to music from the sixty’s to present, with a smattering of Blues, Caribbean and some Smooth Jazz. Every 3rd Friday is a Theme Night. We’ve had themes such as Black History Night, Motown Night, Mardi Gras Night, Western Night, Honoring our Black Military Night, Raven’s Night, and Black & White Night. We had a Network Night, where you were able to promote your business. We also celebrate each crew members birthday month. We are proud to say that we get 5 to 10 first timers which we call newbies every month. Most months we have 2 or more visitors from out of town. We celebrated our 10th year anniversary at Caton Castle in September 2015. It was a well- attended affair with many wearing our anniversary t-shirts. The Crew awarded certificates and trophies to groups and individuals that have supported us over the years.
We also recognized our supporters that night by with letting patrons in for half price.
Over the years we have had
- Several food drives during the holidays and can goods or non-perishables would be deduct from admission
- Sponsored several cabarets
- Newspaper write-ups in The Baltimore Times –Rosa Pryor’s newspaper
- Received numerous awards and certificates from our peers
- Received the Norma Miller (last survivor of The Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers) Award for Exceptional Performance & Achievement
